Patrick Jordi, Michele Belknap and Wendy Goddard in August: Osage County

August: Osage County
Masque Theatre, Muizenberg
Friday, 28 October
Tickets: R50–R60

Tracy Letts’ acclaimed dark comedy “August: Osage County” opens at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, on Friday 28 October.  Director birga Thomas saw this explosive play on Broadway and was so impressed that she applied for and got the South African rights.  The MADS production is the South African premiere of this worldwide hit, which has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for the best Drama 2008.

Set on the hot plains of the southern United States, the Weston family re-union becomes a melting-pot of insults and betrayal.  The August heat is matched by the emotional temperature of the family interactions.

Critics have compared this rollercoaster of a play to the works of Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee.  It has toured the United States and been produced in Europe, Australia and Argentina to rave reviews.

The director and several of the cast members have won awards in the past.  The play has a very strong cast, and also introduces some new actors to the Masque Theatre stage.

“August: Osage County” by Tracy Letts depicts one bitch of a family re-union at which you’ll recoil in shock, cry and laugh.  Whatever your re-action, the play will not be forgotten. (Not recommended for children).

Because of the length of the play, performances are restricted to one per day, with varying stating times, and an additional Wednesday evening show.

Friday 28 at 19h30, Saturday 29 at 19h30, Sunday 30 October at 15h00, Wednesday 02 at 19h30, Thursday 03 at 19h30, Friday 04 at 19h30 and Saturday 05 November at 14h30.  Tickets are R50 for matinees and Wednesday evening and R60 for the other evenings. (Masque Theatre Club members enjoy a R10 discount). To book phone Masque Theatre Bookings on 021 788 1898 (o/h).
