Rob van Vuuren – Unplugged and Unhinged at Kalk Bay Theatre


Winner of this year’s inaugural Comics Choice Breakthrough Act award, Rob van Vuuren will be spending Sundays through February at the beautiful and intimate Kalk Bay Theatre.  

In Unplugged and Unhinged, Rob will be experimenting with some of the material he has been  working on recently,  as well chucking in a healthy dose of new stuff, as  he sets about to ‘build’ his as yet un-named one man show to be  launched nationally later this year. Seats are extremely limited so book well in advance to be part of this unique opportunity to watch  a local comedy legend engage in an unforgettable quest to entertain you in one of the most unique theatre spaces in the country.  

Rob is well known as Twakkie from the cult comedy duo Corne and Twakkie, as well as for being co-host of award-winning television shows Crazy Games and SA’s Got Talent, but it is as a stand-up comedian that Rob has most excelled in the last two years.  

He has risen through the ranks of the highly competitive stand up comedy scene to become a regular, bankable and very funny headline act.

Rob’s first one man stand up show Rob van Vuuren is Rob van Vuuren was described as ‘comic genius’  (Mail and Guardian); ‘hysterically funny’ (Natal Witness ) and by Cue  as ‘If Comedy had a God, Van Vuuren would be it’. It was a nominee for best one man show at the SA Comedy Awards in 2008  and he also won the Nando’s Best Newcomer Act at 'Alive and Kicking'  in Grahamstown in the same year. Rob also works as a director and some  of his directorial credits include 'Kurt Schoonraad’s HOMEGROAN, Gary the Toothfairy (stage), Shimmy Isaac’s award winning Allie Pad Funny Worcester, Louw Venter’s Best Man Speech, Isabella and Gaëtan Schmid’s Rumpsteak.

Rob is no stranger to the Kalk Bay Theatre having appeared there in his one man physical theatre fantasy epic Electric Juju, which is currently being adapted into a full length animated feature film, as  well as having co-starred alongside co-writer James Cairns in the  critically acclaimed Brother Number.

Rob will perform Unplugged and Unhinged on Sundays in Februaryat 19h30. Tickets cost R70. Doors open at 6pm and theatre-goers can enjoy a light meal before the show.
