Inkululeko*

Zanoxolo Mthengi - 2006-09-07

Ho-o-o-o-o-yina!

Awil’ amaqhaw’ elwel’ inkululeko,
Ziwil’ iinkosi zisilwel’ inkululeko,
Kudala sikhala,sikhalel’ inkululeko,
Namhla ifikile;
Kodw’ indl’ emnyam’ isadl’ umhlaba ngomlomo;
Ivaleleke phantsi kothango lwentlupheko.
Sokwenza ntoni na ngenkululeko sisifa yindlala?
Iphi n’ inkululeko xa sibotshwe ngamatyathang’ entlupheko?

Yavel’ impund’ eyavul’ isango lenkululeko
Aa!Vulisango, kwatsho kwaphum’ ilitha lethemba,
Bayiyizel’ abafazi yinimba novuyo,
Zahlahlamb’ iimbongi luvakalelo nemincili;
Pheselel’ ithemba leth’ alisabukwa,
Balirhwaphilizil’oohlohlezab’abanoburhalarhume,
Nditsho ngobuqhophololo nangobuqhetseba.
Ngowani na lo mona ndlu kaPhalo?
Buphi n’ ubuntu bantu bakuthi?

Yeyethu sonke le nkululeko,
Masiyixhamle singayixhaphazi,
Sitsale ngaxhadi linye ndlu kaPhalo,
Xa sibambisene siya kukhululeka,
Kub’umanyano ngamandla mz’oNtsundu.

Ndeegram!

* * Freedom - This poem celebrates the liberation of the blacks from oppression. However, the poem notes that liberation without economic power is useless. A call for unity among the blacks is made in the poem.
