Playwriting workshops highlight the desire for drama in all 11 official languages

Maskew Miller Longman Literature Awards for Drama Closing date: 31 July 2007 - 2007-05-28

The Maskew Miller Longman Literature Awards for drama hosted a series of playwriting workshops across the country. The workshops, which started in March and continued through April, came to a close on the 3rd ofMay at Artscape in Cape Town.

To celebrate the success of the workshops and its growing popularity with aspiring writers Maskew Miller Longman invited various members of the theatre and publishing industry to join the Cape Town delegates at Artscape Opera Bar for a cocktail party.

Professor Roy Sargeant, who facilitated the workshops across South Africa, likened his delegates to blotting paper and was both inspired and encouraged by their warmth and eagerness to learn. He stressed how important it is to encourage writers to produce work in their own language and mentioned that workshop attendees across South Africa were drawn to the competition for this very reason.

For those wishing to submit a manuscript entry forms for the competition are available from the Maskew Miller Longman Head Office in Cape Town on 021 532 6000 and on the website (www.mml.co.za). An official entry form must accompany each entry. The closing date for the competition is 31 July 2007.
