Peter Bruns duo recital
Enoch Sontonga Hall, Unisa
Sunday 13 November: 16h00
Tickets: R80 (R60 for students and pensioners)

The well-known German cellist, Peter Bruns, will perform at Unisa on Sunday 13 November at 16:00 in the Enoch Sontonga Hall, accompanied by German pianist Annegret Kuttner.

The versatile cellist cum conductor Bruns has an excellent reputation in the international music world as one of Germany’s leading cellists. He has the privilege of playing on a cello once owned by the legendary Spanish cellist Pablo Casals. It is a Carlo Tononi cello from Venice, dated 1730.

Apart from performing as a soloist and chamber musician in renowned concert halls throughout Europe, America and Asia, he was also Artistic Director of the renowned Schloss Moritzburg Chamber Music Festival from 1993 to 2000, Professor for Cello at the Dresden School of Music From 1998 to 2005, and, since 2005, has held the same position at the School of Music in Leipzig.

Bruns is a musician concerned about community involvement. He has initiated a special outreach concert series in German prisons “Haydn hinter Gittern” (Haydn behind bars) – a project that was exceptionally well received.

Since September 2006 Peter Bruns has also been Principal Guest Conductor of the Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig.

The programme consists of works from the romantic period: Fünf Stücke im Volkston by Schumann, the Arpeggione sonata by Schubert and the sonata in E minor, Op 38 by Brahms.

Tickets for this event are sold only at the door at R80 for adults and R60 for students and pensioners.
