Sagmoedige Neelsie inspireer met sy sêgoed in Jan Scannell se boek Spreuke van CJ Langenhoven. Maar hy het ’n groter nalatenskap agtergelaat: Die Burger-koerant en die eertydse volkslied, “Die Stem”.

CJ Langenhoven, aka Gentle Neelsie, had a formidable part in Afrikaans literature. He was a founder member of the newspaper Die Burger and wrote the words of “Die Stem”, the original South African anthem.
