Sing ’it interview with Dance You're on Fire

Dance You're on Fire - 2011-09-06

Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever written/composed a song?

I think I wrote a song in my head on a roller coaster.

Which local band’s songwriting shows consistent quality?

Wrestlerish.

What themes particularly interest you at this stage of your career?

I think the idea of giving songs the space to breathe as opposed to just going flat-out is the hardest thing to perfect in music. That’s what’s interesting us at the moment.

What is the best song you’ve ever written/composed?

It’s impossible to choose. I think as a band we’d probably say “Blockade”, but commercially it’s probably “Boxes of Tigers”.

"Boxes of Tigers" by Dance You're on Fire

There must be a tide residing in your bones, that finds my body shaking in the street
I bet it’s comfortable to feel as though you know, a part of me I thought I’d never get to meet.

Chorus

I’ve got boxes of tigers,
No time to waste
I’m not getting away.
I’m tired of being a fighter,
This isn’t a race,
I’m not getting away.

Who are you, who are you if you are not in the zoo you’re in the city
Drag it out drag it out what are we arguing about when you know everything?
How’d you get so chiq? The fancy bars and the antiques.
I guess I’m glad that isn’t me, I guess I’m glad that I don’t know anything.

Chorus

I’ve got boxes of tigers,
No time to waste
I’m not getting away.
I’m tired of being a fighter,
This isn’t a race,
I’m not getting away.
