In a unusual concert, American saxophonist Ashu will perform with pianist Pieter Jacobs on Saturday 18 June at 18:00 in the Enoch Sontonga Hall at Unisa’s Sunnyside Campus in Pretoria.

Concert saxophonist Ashu, age 26, has continually defied conventions winning major international and national competitions traditionally won by pianists and violinists.

He made his recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall in New York and, at age 16, made his concerto debut at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

Since then, concerto and recital performances have taken him throughout the USA and Europe.

The programme ranges from original works by Ibert (Concertino da Camera), Demersseman (Fantaisie) and Villa-Lobos (Fantasia) to his own arrangements of Piazzolla, Rachmaninov, and Morricone.

Born and raised in California, Ashu has won numerous first prizes in American and international competitions.

Ashu graduated from Northwestern University and is currently based in Chicago.

Tickets are sold only at the door from 17:00 onwards at R80 for adults and R60 for students and pensioners.
