Mr Gay South Africa Launches 2011 Season with Design Competition

2011-05-26

The Mr Gay South Africa season for 2011 has been launched with a design competition for a new logo. The competition, stating as its mission “to find the ultimate gay male”, has been restructured to make it more streamline in view of the owner company, Mr Gay South Africa (Pty) Ltd hosting the next Mr Gay World competition in 2012 in Johannesburg and to make participation more accessible.

Director of operations, Coenie Kukkuk, said: “The new format will be launched within the next few weeks, and entries will open in the beginning of June. The new website, www.mrgsa.co.za is already up and running and entry forms will be available from the beginning of June.”

In line with the restructure, it has been decided by the board of directors to change the corporate image to portray the new direction and, importantly, include the LGBTI community by launching a design competition wherein LGBTI designers are invited to submit designs of the new logo. The winner will receive broad exposure for his or her company by being announced in the media and will be named as the “official logo designer” of Mr Gay South Africa, which official status is valued at more than R50 000.

Entries must be submitted no later than the 8th of June 2011 to coenie@mrgsa.co.za and the artwork must be submitted in accordance with the following:

1. The logo should generally represent the mission and vision of Mr Gay South Africa, being a modern competition which aims to find an ambassador for the LGBTI community – “the ultimate gay male”;

2. All work must be original - no copyrighted or trademarked images should be included in submissions;

3. The selected logo becomes the property of Mr Gay South Africa and may be used for any purpose determined by Mr Gay South Africa;

4. The logo should at least contain the letters “MR.GSA” and the words “Mr Gay South Africa™”, including the trade mark sign;

5. The logo should have at most two spot colours, one of which must be black or dark, and should be well recognisable even in small sizes. Smaller sized files must be included, as well as a banner format;

6. Design should be 381dpi, layers should not be flattened and spot or pantone number should be supplied;

7. Individuals are allowed to submit a maximum of three different designs for the competition.

8. The winner will be determined by a majority vote of the board of directors of the company, the decision will be final and no correspondence regarding the choice will be entered into.

9. Submissions should be sent as .pdf files (and should not be compressed) to: coenie@mrgsa.co.za by no later than the 8th of June 2012.
